Unit 1 Post-Write Shaun Conway Jr.
My essay, A True Zombie, is about the deeper meanings and interpretations of an actual zombie. A Wesleyan University student gives numerous amounts of evidence to prove the claim that zombies are used to symbolize slavery, cannibalism, religion, and race. In a nut shell, a zombie can be used as a subliminal symbol to get a message across. The aspect of the analysis that was most difficult for me to understand was the structure of the assignment. This is my first time doing a rhetorical analysis so it was a bit confusing trying to figure out where to put the summary and the analysis paragraphs in order to make everything flow together. I believe that it is crucial to be able to summarize articles in future assignments in classes. It's crucial because it helps you understand what it is that you've just read. If you can't summarize what you've just read, then that means that you probably won't understand the assignment that's going to go along with the reading. I learned how to write this essay after we turned in our rough drafts. The peer review helped me see exactly what I needed. I was able to look at my peer's papers, observe how they went about doing the assignment, and took their criticism to help perfect my paper. After all of that valuable help, the task was clear on what I needed to do. The best piece of constructive feedback that I had gotten was from my professor. He told me that I had just summarized the article twice in 2 different ways, and that the more elaborate one was needed. So, all I had to do was go back and add my analysis part of the essay. One strength in my paper was that I had an excellent summary. Everyone complimented me on how well I understood the article. One area that could be improved on my paper was the analysis. When we turned in our rough drafts for peer review, I didn't even have an analysis on my essay due to the fact that I didn't fully understand how to go about making one. I feel that my instructor was very helpful with my essay. If i had to point out one flaw, it would be minor. It was the fact that I had emailed my professor about the assignment and he didn't reply until a day or 2 later. Other than that, the information that he provided me with was efficient.
