Angela Tenga and Elizabeth Zimmerman have written an article that enlightens the readers of the unknown meanings and symbolisms of zombies and vampires. While watching a zombie or vampire movie the viewers may not put as much thought into what the monsters are symbolizing. Throughout this article both writers look deeper into the meaning of zombies and vampires and how they resemble the real world today. According to Tenga and Zimmerman, zombies are replacing vampires. Vampires have lost their edge and ability to be scary. They have emotions and are civilized while zombies have no feelings and kill without thinking. Instead of inciting fear like zombies, vampires incite desire. The article states that villainous vampires are extinct. The audience craves a real monster, vampires in todays society are attractive and don’t create a sense of horror. Zombies scare people with their appearances and actions. They also remind the audience that eventually we will all be rotting flesh and there is nothing we can do about it. The writers continue to show why zombies are slowly, but surely replacing vampires. Zombies show society how easy it is to invade our bodies, homes, cities, and country. Although zombies aren’t real, they are very realistic figures. Zombies remind us of the aspect of having a poor body image. Zombies live eternity in corrupt bodies, this relates to humans disliking their bodies and having plastic surgery done to fix these “corrupt bodies”. Zombies come in groups and lack individuality, which in today’s world is slowly dwindling. Vampires are unique and are immortal. Zombies have no rules or guidelines, while vampires have treaties and respect boundaries. The most terrifying attribute of a zombie is that it is essentially mindless and won't hesitate to kill or eat you even if you were once its friend or family.
