The chapter that I
thought was most interesting was the chapter Blame. This chapter was about how
the CIA had an impact on the great panic and how the CIA was involved in the
problem that was started to occur in the U.S. It talked about how the plague
originated in china. The Warmbrunn-Knight report was an important part step by
step process that occurred after the great panic. People believed that rabies
was the reason why people got infected, but governments believed that was a
cover up. A drug called Phalanx got to the market and it was just a placebo to
calm everyone down, so society doesn’t go crazy. Phalanx was used by a family
in Montana just to be safe. After the family witnessed a zombie come into their
house and try to kill them, they believed this disease was more than just
rabies. This chapter is important to the larger context of the story because
people are starting to believe this disease or infection is more than just
rabies. This chapter is also important to the larger context because it gets to
the deeper level of the infection and how people like the CIA are trying to
stabilize it. That chapter helped explain the plot of the book as a whole
better. I chose this chapter because it was the most interesting one. I thought
the story that was told in the state of Montana was important because it
finally showed proof that these creatures were zombies and rabies isn’t what
infected them. This chapter introduces the medicine Phalanx that could be
discussed in class. This medicine could draw many questions like why create a
medicine that won’t work? Why use a placebo like Phalanx just to stabilize
society? Are you afraid that society will find out that this medicine is
useless? There are many questions you can ask and the book will answer them the
more you read it. This chapter also talks about the Israelis declaration and
that is a topic that can be discussed in class. The whole Israeli declaration
and the Warmbrunn-Knight report was kind of suspicious, but the U.S.
military/government adjusted by having a phase 1 and phase 2. This is another
topic we could talk about in a class discussion.
