Unit 1 Post Write

  1. Summarize your essay in two or three sentences. What is the primary question(s) that you ask in your essay?
My essay discussed the origins of the modern zombie and how they are a parallel to current events as well as history. I showed how ethos and pathos were used by the original article’s author explain the message to the audience. My paper’s purpose was to highlight the main points of McAlister’s original writing.
  1. What aspect of the analysis was most difficult for you to understand? Explain.
I’ve never enjoyed using the rhetorical devices, ethos, pathos, and logos. I always mixed pathos and ethos up, while I understand the difference now, It’s still hard to find appropriate examples of them, logos is easy. Ethos has to be the most difficult; finding examples of it was the most challenging part of the essay. I also didn’t like analyzing how Obama and McCain were relevant to the article; it felt like a stretch to try to connect with the audience that was entirely unnecessary.
  1. Why might it be important to be able to summarize an article in future assignments or classes?
Summarizing is important because it allows for a person to better understand what they have read; it also can serve as a device for future projects. A summary can jog a person’s memory about the original content as well as make comparisons as well as contract other articles if they are writing a more in-depth paper.
  1. When did you know how to write this essay? In other words, what activity or conversation led to you understanding what was expected of you in this essay?
The peer reviewing and discussing the expected lay out of the paper was very helpful. Before that point the directions were confusing and many of the requirements unknown, I hope that before a draft is due in the next assignment we will know the expectations thoroughly. Summary papers aren’t too difficult once you know the method of grading.

  1. What was the best piece of constructive feedback you got on your paper (either from the instructor or a peer)?
The best constructive feedback I received was that I didn’t need to read and summarize all three essays, which I unfortunately did.
  1. What was one strength in your paper?
I highlighted the main points very well and used quotations through out its entirety. I feel as if I made the article enjoyable to read.
  1. What was one area that could be improved in your paper?
I would have improved my paper by using a bit less of my own voice as well as putting more examples of logos, pathos, and ethos into it.
  1. How can I (the instructor) help you most in my response to your paper? Be specific about the parts or passages that you still are not satisfied with, or a decision you made that you want me to comment on?

The paper layout, instead of having four paragraphs I dedicated one to each of the main topics, would you of preferred me to intermingle them all and compare them? Also, could you pass out a hard copy of all the expectations the day the paper is assigned? It would help with clarity of the assignment.
